Marriage and the Supreme Court Ruling

So many of my fellow Christians are complaining about today's supreme court ruling in favor of gay marriage.  They are proclaiming that America has turned her back on God.  They are adamant that this is not the definition of a Biblical marriage.

But let's be honest.  What we see today as marriage is not a Biblical marriage.  Nowhere does the Bible say the government has to recognize any marriage for it to be legal.  If we're going to complain that a marriage isn't Biblical, let's start there.

Next, we should ban all remarriages, except for those due to the death of a spouse or infidelity.  The Bible certainly does not recognize those.  Even Jesus Himself taught against divorce and remarriage. So after we get through with the first issue, let's address this one next.

Lastly - and this is more of an issue of having godly compassion for others which is something the Bible definitely promotes.  Should we say that any person does not have basic rights because we do not agree with said person?   Should we say that any person is not entitled to have their health needs met?  (Jesus didn't question what type of person He was healing).  Should we say that a stranger in the form of a family member has more say-so over a person's life (or death) than the one person that has meant everything to him or her?  Should we say that one person who is married to a person of the opposite gender is more entitled to comfort and security than another person who is married to a person of the same gender?  These last two sound like favoritism to me, which is strictly forbidden throughout the Bible.

The fact is, these are benefits that are only guaranteed by that piece of paper on which the Bible is silent.  So whether you agree or disagree with the supreme court's ruling, perhaps we all need to ask ourselves if human beings are all equally entitled to these basic rights.  If so, and if the only way we can guarantee these rights in our culture is through a piece of paper that the Bible does not endorse anyway; how can we complain that they ruled against Biblical marriage?
